We GET Cancer.

At TBB, The Balm Box, we’re here to make cancer treatments a little less miserable — for patients and the people who love them. Backed by insights from research with over 500 patients and caregivers, our thoughtfully curated cancer gifts are packed with premium, practical items that help patients during cancer surgeries, treatments and recovery.

Ultimately, we give the gift of empowerment by offering useful, thoughtful, non-prescription tools in a gift box - giving patients a sense of control during a deeply turbulent time and giving friends and family a way to actually HELP when they feel utterly helpless.

President, Founder, CEO, and 6x Cancer Survivor - Liz Benditt

The Balm Box was conceived by a 6-time cancer survivor as a solution to a real problem. Founder and President Liz Benditt struggled to find functional non-prescription tools to manage her cancer treatment side effects, while concurrently receiving SO MANY well-meaning but useless gifts.

In Fall of 2020 she launched TheBalmBox.com. The product line was developed based on interviews with 500+ patients and caregivers to curate *functional* care packages for cancer patients. Patients ranked functional items like ice-packs and lotion 400% higher than t-shirts and tote bags. This was and continues to be the founding principle behind The Balm Box product line - offering care packages that feature genuinely useful, high-quality items to provide palliative relief from cancer treatment side effects.

The goal of TBB, The Balm Box is to make life a little easier, more bearable for patients undergoing miserable treatments by providing friends and family of cancer patients curated gift packages that provide genuine utility to the gift recipient.

From Liz: This photo was taken in April 2025, about 18 months after I completed treatments and surgeries for my second breast cancer. (I'm the one in the hat.) I was committed to "re-owning" my body again and trained and finished a Half Marathon with my dear friend Stacey. For those of you IN IT right now - I'm here to say - it CAN get better! XOXO

Cancer is Pervasive in the USA

Prostate & Breast Cancer Lead the Pack

But lung cancer and colon and rectal cancers are not too far behind. (Pun intended...)

Breast Cancer Sucks

Did you know that of the 140,000 mastectomies performed annually, about 2/3 are single and 1/3 are double?

Prostate Cancer Stinks

According to the ACA The prostate cancer death rate declined by about half from 1993 to 2022, most likely due to earlier detection and advances in treatment.

Our Brand Values

QUALITY

We only work with businesses and brands that adhere to the same quality standards that we do. Meaning, providing patients with genuinely useful, premium quality items that will last and/or work.

AUTHENTICITY

We never make false claims. We believe in real medicine and under no circumstances do we suggest our gift boxes are curative – they are there to support patients while undergoing traditional treatments.

EMPOWERMENT

Feeling helpless as a patient or the friend or family member of a patient is unbearable. We believe gifting a balm box provides loved ones an opportunity to take a small bit of control, providing their loved ones with cancer the opportunity to focus on healing and helping, doing so with compassion and a little humor.

HUMOR

Yes, cancer is a scary and serious disease but there is no reason patients and their friends and families must walk around as if under a storm cloud 24/7. It’s not just okay to laugh – it’s medically helpful! Making light of the inevitable indignities that come with being a cancer patient help patients and family and friends alike muscle through the non-funny moments.

*Here's a great research article that summarizes 7 studies on the affect of laughter on cancer patient outcomes. Hint: Laughter = Good!
